The Ministry of Finance aimed to find additional revenues from gambling as part of public finance consolidation efforts. However, the current form of newly introduced taxation will not lead to the desired outcome. Petr Kozák, the Secretary of the Institute for Public Finance, recently penned a concise commentary for Seznam media on the topic of changes in gambling taxation within the consolidation package.
“At the Institute for Public Finance, we understand the need to consolidate public finances, and it is entirely legitimate to consider adjustments to gambling taxation. However, it is essential to have a debate about what changes make sense, what their effects will be, and what could lead to counterproductive outcomes. Instead of increasing the overall tax burden, the state should focus primarily on more effective enforcement against illegal business and creating a stable business environment. This would ultimately bring more money into the state coffers than naively expected from new changes,” said Petr Kozák, the Secretary of the Institute.
